During 1975-1979 Cambodia (known then as “Democratic Kampuchea”) was controlled by the Khmer Rouge. Nearly 2 million people died and those who survived had to struggle with physical and mental injuries. While my parents and family survived the Khmer Rouge regime, like other Cambodian survivors, the effects of war, atrocity, and starvation continued to haunt them all their lives.
While working in DC-Cam. I was offer an honor from Ambassador Julio A. Jeldres to work with him on his book, “The Royal House of Cambodia.” I had photograph all the member in royal family, especially I was grant to visit and photograph His Majesty King Norodom Sihamoni and the Queen Mother of Cambodia, Norodom Monineath Sihanouk.
When I visit the king in the first time, my heartbeat run faster. I recalled what my mother have said, “Do not give up on your dreams, no matter what the circumstances.” and finally, I keep working hard until I can see the king face to face.
I deeply thanks to his majesty that He grants me the wish that I hope to be a good filmmaker in the coming day.
